Guide

Which license do I need?

  • Individual property owner: you run the rental yourself and name a local representative.
  • Professional property manager: a manager advertises and runs it. The manager also needs a Town of Vail business license, wherever its office is.
  • On-site 24/7 front desk: the unit is in a property with a front desk staffed around the clock.

Guide

What does the application need?

For owner and manager licenses, documents are uploaded in order:

  1. A copy of the local representative's driver's license showing a physical address (owner licenses).
  2. A signed local representative authorization form.
  3. A notarized, initialed self-compliance affidavit.
  4. Liability insurance of at least $1,000,000 that covers short-term rental use. The town accepts an affidavit instead if you use the insurance of an approved platform; it names Airbnb, VRBO and Evolve.
  5. A passed fire inspection certificate.
  6. The registration fee.

The local representative must be within 60 minutes of the property and answer complaints 24/7.

Guide

What does it cost?

  • Individual owner and professional manager licenses: $260 registration fee.
  • On-site 24/7 front desk license: $50 registration fee.

Fees as listed on the town page on 2026-10-18. Licenses currently expire February 28, 2027.

Is there anything extra for a duplex?

Yes. For owner and manager licenses, send the owner of the adjoining unit a notice at least seven days before you apply, and keep USPS proof of mailing.

Guide

How do I apply and who do I ask?

Applications go through the town's MuniRevs portal, linked from the town page. Questions go to the town's short-term rental staff by the email and phone listed on that page. The town files taxes online and takes complaints through the same page.
